Questions, answered.
Which TVs can Tivi control?
Samsung smart TVs (Tizen), LG smart TVs (webOS), and TVs and streamers running Android TV or Google TV, including Chromecast with Google TV. Cast-only Chromecasts and Roku players show up in the device list but can't be controlled yet.
Does Tivi work with Apple TV?
No. Apple doesn't let third-party apps control an Apple TV or other AirPlay-only devices, so no App Store remote app can — Tivi lists them but can't drive them. For an Apple TV, use the Apple TV Remote built into your iPhone's Control Center.
Can Tivi turn my TV on?
Yes, for Samsung and LG TVs it has connected to before. With no TV connected, the Remote tab shows Turn On TV, which sends a wake-up signal over your home network. The TV has to be set to accept it — Samsung usually calls the setting Power On with Mobile, LG Turn on via Wi-Fi — and it's often off out of the box. Android TV and Google TV devices still need their own remote to switch on.
Can I type on my TV with Tivi?
On an LG webOS TV, yes. Select a text field on the TV, tap the keyboard button on the remote, and what you type on your iPhone appears on the TV as you type it — searches, sign-ins, Wi-Fi passwords. Typing on Samsung, Android TV and Google TV isn't available yet.
Does my TV have to be a smart TV?
Yes. iPhones have no infrared blaster, so Tivi controls a TV over Wi-Fi rather than by pointing at it. The TV has to be a smart TV connected to your home network.
Do I need to be on the same Wi-Fi as the TV?
Yes. Tivi talks to your TV directly over the local network, which is what keeps it fast and private. Nothing is routed through a server.
Why does Tivi ask for local network access?
It uses Bonjour to discover devices on your network. Without that permission iOS hides every TV from the app, and the device list stays empty.
My TV is asking for a code — what now?
That's the one-time pairing step. An LG webOS, Android TV or Google TV set shows a code on screen: type it into Tivi. A Samsung asks you to allow the connection instead: accept it with the TV's own remote. Either way it's remembered, so you only do it once.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no profile. Install the app, allow local network access, and start controlling.
